Now that you are all packed up and ready to find some gold, your going to need somewhere to go that will give you the best chance to find gold.
The first place I go to look for a new prospecting spot is the Bureau of Land Management online. They have an interactive map of the mining claims across the continual US. The Geo communicator is the BLM’s online Land and Mineral Use Records Viewer. Please note that the active claims are private property, but the closed claims are open for sampling. If you can, visit your local BLM office for verification of the availability of the property you are looking to sample. They also have great maps of your area.
Local libraries are a great place to research the past history of the area you are interested in prospecting. This information can give you ideas of places not found on the maps.
If you have a local prospecting club, they usually have claims for their members to prospect. Also, most of these clubs have prospecting equipment their members can borrow and use until they can get their own prospecting tools. Gold prospecting clubs are also a great place to ask experienced prospectors questions and watch the tools in action.
National forests are one more place to check out. Some have rules on prospecting in the park, so be sure to check with the park rangers before you start digging. Most have web sites you can visit for descriptions of the park rules and contact information to request more information.
There are lots of places to look for gold. All it takes is a little research to find the right spot.
