There are a few things you will need before you embark on your first prospecting adventure.
Gold prospecting is an ongoing learning experience and everyone starts somewhere. If you have never prospected for gold before, you will need to do some simple research on gold. The internet and the library are good places to start. The internet has a lot of places to learn how others are finding gold. U tube and other video sharing web sites have hundreds of free videos that show people panning and using the prospecting equipment suitable for the type of area they are in. Find a few of the videos that were filmed in the type of places you plan on prospecting and watch for the kinds of tools they use and where they choose to dig, also watch some of the videos on gold panning to learn the basic of panning.
Now that you have the basics, you will need just a few things to get you started.
Got a gold pan?
Gold pans are available online or at your local prospecting store. If you can’t find or afford one, you could always use an old, metal pie pan.
Got a shovel?
Your going to need a shovel, bucket, broom and a dust pan. With these simple tools you will be able to get your first pan of dirt to pan for gold.
Got a reliable vehicle?
When you are going out miles from the nearest town, it can be a costly tow to get your ride back to town, top off the vehicle’s fluids and toss in a lunch for yourself.
Got a buddy?
Having a friend come along to help sample and run equipment is always a good idea just incase something go’s wrong. At the least, tell someone where your going and what time you should be back.
Got something to put the gold in?
Most prospectors use a tool called a snuffer bottle but, something like a baby food jar can be used.
